Browns Plains Centre is in the South East Region and participates in the Regional Relays and Regional Intercentre Games against the following Centres in our Region: Algester, Beenleigh, Jimboomba, Springwood, Sunnybank, Mt Gravatt, Wymmum Manly, Redlands and Balmoral. Eligibility for nominations to Regional Championships (and State Championships) includes a requirement of prior participation in not less than four (4) Centre level meetings, unless the Committee of Management of the nominating Centre considers that extenuating circumstances exist.
REGIONAL RELAYS
After nominations have closed, ALL athletes are organised into teams to compete in events from: 4 x 70m, 4 x 100m, 4 x 200m, 4 x medley (depending on age group). Long jump, High jump, Shot put and Discus (depending on age group)are entered individually and the 2 best performances (from Browns Plains) are then paired up for the final result. We encourage all athletes irrespective of ability to nominate for our only teams competition of the year in the U/7 to U/17 age groups.
STATE RELAYS
Teams that come 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. in the Regional Relays compete in the State Relays against teams from other Regions throughout Queensland, ( U/7’s and U/8 do not progress to the State Relays). The Centre gaining the most points wins the State shield.
REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Athletes in ALL age groups, U/7 to U/17, may nominate in up to and including 5 events. The first THREE placegetters in finals in age groups- U/9 to U/15- will proceed on to the State Championships. This is a 2 day competition on a weekend in February. U/7,U/8, are eligible to compete but DO NOT progress to the State Titles. Participation medals will be given to all competing U/7- U/8 athletes. Competitors in the U/9 to U/17 age groups who place 1st, 2nd. And 3rd. in finals will be awarded medals for that event.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Qualifiers from each Region compete against each other, many coming from all parts of Queensland. Medals are awarded to placegetters in the finals events.
COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Combined Event Championships is for U9 – U17’s and offers participation for U7 – U8’s.
The number of combined events per age group is a graduated increase to reduce undue pressure on younger athletes and encourage athlete’s development. A strong emphasis is on the participation of children in a wider range of events, rather than the early specialisation in one or two specific events.
Additionally, the State Team Selectors will refer to the U15 Heptathlon results when selecting athletes for the State Team.
The Combined Event is considered one event; therefore, athletes failing to start or make a trial, in any of the set events of the Combined Event will not be allowed to take part in the remaining events per the LAQ Rules.
Eligibility All LAQ registered U7 – U17’s athletes; and LA registered U13 – U17’s athletes may request approval for participation.
Note: All participating athletes must wear the approved Centre uniform.
Multi-Class Athlete Inclusion LAQ registered and classified athletes have the opportunity to nominate in multi-class combined event. Classification is not applicable for participation in standard event at this competition. All athletes are encouraged to participate and compete in mainstream opportunities where appropriate.
